Sometimes with this project I reach a point where I feel like I am totally out of new music to listen to. Sure there is tons of new stuff but maybe the passion isn't there or the pool of album is kind of weak for a little while. That is when I usually take to the net and find something new, and that is exactly how I stumbled on Oranssi Pazuzu and this EP Farmokologinen. These are songs that have been remastered from recoding in 2010, but they contain this absolutely haunting distant screaming vocals and pounding heavy metal. Everything is aggressive and because the lyrics are indecipherable you can only take what you hear at face value. The guitars go from heavy distortion to pure psychedelia as the drums bang and distorted bass drives the entire thing forward. The vocals are just screams, pure hardcore shit but the vibe they are able to evoke is really great. From the first note I think most people will know if they are going to like this EP or not because Heavy Metal, even at it's absolute best is not for everyone. You have to pick out to spots where they really do something well like on, and hang tight for this one, "Unihämähäkki" where this really great almost space like sound occasionally pops in but the singing is just totally beyond any kind of control. The double bass drum pounds and pounds away and the guitars rip, its pure unadulterated rock expression and for that reason alone it is at least interesting.

The things you have to get past however might be a challenge when really trying to enjoy this album. It seems like for every really interesting decision they make their is also a very basic heavy metal one made as well. "Torni" has a really great slow burn quality to the intro but again Oranssi Pazuzu's vocals just suck you right out of this really great vibe they are creating. You do however have to respect these arrangements. So much is going on, so many different kinds of sounds, but Oranssi Pazuzu are able to bring them all together in this really unified punch. With great flourishes and really solid instrumentation Farmokologinen is actually quite a good record. I do not expect that anyone out there is gonna agree with me, but give it a shot and see what you think.
