Young Thug and Future might be the two biggest names when it comes to popular trap music. Future headlined Coachella and Thug puts out more music each year than almost anymore out there. The two rappers are often mentioned in the same breath not only because they both come from Atlanta, but because both also came up at about the same time. They are currently not at the height of their popularity, but are still two of the most respected in the game. However their relationship has never been all that rosey with Future and producer Metro Boomin throwing insults at Thug since 2015 with him returning the favor more than once. Production is handled by a number of producers including: Mike WILL made it, Southside, Metro Boomin, TM88 and Wheezy all seemingly working in the same vein of music only adding a few variations. Mike WILL and Metro are the two most absent on the album though as it misses this bombastic wild production. As Mike WILL has moved on to artists like Kendrick and advanced his production this specific trap sound is no longer all that exciting. For Future the album focuses on loss and mourning, while still trying to push through. Thug instead of employing his chirping and yells is more laid back keeping his voice quite stagnant throughout. Thug is at his best when He is let loose, everything on full display, but on this album He gives way to much ground to Future and his style. Future likes to croon in a way, but it's not something Thug excels at.

The album really suffers in feeling like so much of a compromise. This may be the album Future intended, Hell it could even be a Future album with just a lot of Thug features because it sounds so much like Future. You find yourself desperate for something explosive, something big but even on the louder tracks like "Feed Me Dope" you are left disappointed. The sounds on each track are so similar, the vibe so the same that you never find anything to really latch on to in the 40 minute runtime. On "Real Love" Future's delivery is so fucking boring your hand hovers over the skip button from the first second He opens his mouth. Because this collaboration took so long to come to fruition and there was at a time bad blood between the two it never feels like they fully buy in to this partnership. It feels like a couple of mediocre albums fused together with little care for making them unified. Southside has said in interviews that SUPER SLIMEY is just a teaser of what's to come from Future & Young Thug's collaboration so let's hope it gets better because as it is I don't see this team lasting all that long.
