Belle and Sebastian - Girls in Peactime Want to Dance

Belle and Sebastian
Girls in Peacetime Want to Dace
2015

I had never heard anything from Belle and Sebastian before i listened to their most recent release "Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance". In doing some research, they have been around for quite awhile and have been on the vanguard on hipster music, but until recently taken a long break. Belle and Sebastian sound like what a Wes Anderson Movie looks like; kinda frenchish, ethereal, pastels. The music just kind of floats along lightly but in a danceable way. You can feel yourself start to sway and close your eyes listening to them. There are uses of modern synths and some decent guitar licks, but for the most past the album stays firmly in the new wave genre.

I really enjoyed the song "The Party Line", the beat changes throughout and the singing is great to listen to. It is the one track that really pushes the album forward. As a whole the album is a bit one note, it hits a point and stays there throughout the 12 songs so there is not much to hang on to. Throw this album on in the background for your knitting club or mustache appreciation seminar and it is sure to please but do not expect it to be a game changer.
