Tove Lo - Queen of Clouds

Tove Lo
Queen of Clouds
2014

Tove Lo in her second album brings a true high concept to life. In Queen of Clouds she describes a modern romance frought with sex, love, pain, drugs, edm, and straight up pop music. Every track on this record pushes the boundaries of great pop music; while it's super catchy and danceable the themes are dark, twisted and sexy. Her voice fits the music so perfectly, and it's completely genuine which is so often missing in pop music.

My favorite track is "Talking Body". This song embedded in the "Sex" section of the album could easily have been a pop hit, but Tove Lo takes it to such a dark level it becomes a beautifully depraved sex anthem. If there is one weakness on the album it's the "Love" section. Where the rest of the album is powerful in its pain, this section relies more on the usual pop tropes. That all get smashed to bits with "Not on Drugs" and her dive into the pain section of the album.

Beautiful, dark and ground breaking Tove Lo - Queen of the Clouds is a genre changer. Take a listen pop princesses there is a way to make genuine music without being so damn basic.

9 out of 10 😈
