Most people out there know exactly who Ilovemakonnen is, even if they don't think they do. "Tuesday" (Goin up on a Tuesday) featuring Drake was everywhere for awhile giving people the freedom to rage during the work week. However that was 2014 and the world of pop music is quite fickle. Drink More Water 6 the newest release from Ilovemakonnen find the Atlanta rapper holding the line for southern trap. However this might be the main problem with this album. There is almost zero development, zero improvement and perhaps a backslide. While Drake was perhaps the driving force of "Tuesday" Drink More Water 6 lacks any features that can really elevate this album. On his own Ilovemakonnen is fine, but He's generic. There is not anything on Drink More Water 6 that really seperates him from the pack or would make you want to play an Ilovemakonnen over something else. Ilovemakonnen feels like he is chasing an idea rather than presenting one. On "Sellin" Ilovemakonnen presents himself as a drug dealer flying around slangin, but it feels so false, it is something he should be rather than something he is. Plus everyone knows no drug dealers sell weed and molly.

Where things really start to fall of the rails is on "Want You". In it we get Ilovemakonnen singing almost fully off key, but treating it like a total love song. If you aren't laughing by the time you finish this track you may not have a sense of humor. If "Want You" is the finished product that made it through recording, mixing, mastering and finally putting it on an album, just imagine what the original product sounds like, shivers. Even the titles of songs feels like someone trying to sound cool rather than just being it themselves. Even when IloveMakonnen has moments of brilliance they last only a second and we are on to another grating track. "Solo" where the title is incessantly is a challenge just to even get through. Gracefully the record is short and only 11 tracks (37 minutes) which to be honest is probably 6 tracks to long. "Live For Real", one of the best tracks on the record, comes way to late and can't make up for everything that proceeded it. Ilovemakonnen's best days may be behind him, and if his greatest track ends up being "Tuesday" than Drink More Water 6 will be considered his Monday.
