Gryffin came around just at the tail end of pop EDM's reign of terror. He was one of the younger artists on the rise when the genre simply exploded and became ever present on the radio. He suffered became other names like the Chainsmokers got so big and so watered down that the bottom has just fallen out of big room EDM. This album like much of the genre now just sound like everything else, female vocalist, big room tones and on kind of drop or another. Every moment of this record is completely predictable and thus completely boring. You keep waiting for him to try something new, to branch out even slightly from the rest of the pack but He really doesn't. It's one thing to sound like a genre yet have your own spin, but not only does this album sound like everything else every track sounds the same. It's really challenging to review this record because almost every moment is entirely the same. I wish I was kidding, but seriously you listen and hope for something, hell anything to make this album worthwhile, but it just never comes. The BPMs are high throughout the record so at least you could dance to it if you didn't know who the artist was in some kind of club situation, but as a single work Gravity Pt. 1 is severely lacking in a diversity of sound. The songs all have the same tired messages as well; "Remember", "Tie Me Down" "Just For The Moment" I could go on but each are either about love, remembering a night or both.

I don't think I'm mad that this album exists, nor that Gryffin made it because it does feel malicious or like pandering, instead it just feels dated and dumb. When you listen to the Chainsmokers it makes you mad because they are the most pandering group in the world, but Gryffin just seems to be out of touch. I can't really fault him for that, maybe He doesn't realize the world has long moved past this sound, or maybe there are really still legions of fans wanting to get beeked on molly and rage, but I just don't see it. This feels like a record at least three years too late at best. There really unfortunately isn't a whole lot to say; it's on the nose, it's boring, it's exactly what you would expect and it doesn't go anywhere. Too bad.
