So I knew nothing about Blond:ish before diving into this EP. I had no idea what to expect or what kind of sounds were going to come through the headphones. However once the music started I knew exactly what this was. Anyone who has ever been to a Burning Man party or a place where the wild wooks roam will know this sound. The beat is immediately recognizable coupled with tribal drums and some acid inspired house (not to be confused with acid house). The beats are super progressive always maintaining one line that everything builds off. This EP has that slickness that you find in this kind of music where it feels like you can just sit back and groove forever. There isn't much there on this EP to really dive into because well there just isn't all that much. That swelling anticipation into euphoric release are all here and all pretty magical. It is a super short EP, in all honesty probably too short for this Album a Day project, but hell we are in year five now I guess I can slack off every now and again. The thing this album does do though is get me excited for seeing them live. This type of music has such a specific energy and specific place that I can almost totally describe every time I have been around it. It is however not quite as easy to just casually listen to it on the day to day. You need the people and the vibe for it all to really come together.

There is a lot to like about this kind of music and Blond:ish do do it extremely well. Often times this genre can feel recycled and reheated because it is so repetitive. Sets can go on and on without you even realizing that the music has changed at all, but you still end up dancing none the less. You find a lot of self expression on this album because the beats give you freedom to explore what they mean to you. Unlike a lot of songs Blond:ish don't feel like they are trying to translate a message, they feel like they are trying to give you your own experience with the music. It's a pretty amazing thing when you are able to lose yourself and let the music wash over you, and this is the type of record that does that. It again though is pretty specific and not for everyone. Still give Blond:ish a shot, you may just find yourself in a tie-dye shirt before you know it.
