Tei Shi - Verde

Tei Shi is the stage name of Argentine producer Valerie Teicher currently based in Brooklyn. Her music incorporates Shoegaze, R&B and Electronica to create vibrant landscapes on which her impeccable voice dances. There is a minimalism to her work where no note is wasted. Each sound adds to the whole leaving tons of space for the songs to breathe. Her choice of tones is also quite interesting and even though they are not the norm they still create a comfortable feeling like the idea of being surrounded by space. With a record like this you would expect Tei Shi to slide into a dance or pop vibe but she never really does until "Go Slow". But when "Go Slow" comes on she has you so ready for it that it ends up being one of the best tracks on the record both in and out of context. The claps and her soft vocals will have yo bobbing your head along even as she takes pop music in a very different direction.

There are defiantly times on the record where there should be just a bit more but Her restraint is reminiscent of the xx, withholding from you until the moment is absolutely perfect. There is a quiet sexiness to Verde which is not right on the surface but brewing somewhere underneath just waiting to come out and be discovered. "Get It" the final track on the album is a bit heavy on the looping and probably the weakest track, it is just missing that same punch that the other songs have. Tei Shi clearly has something here and her music connects on a very visceral level. Get into the picture Tei Shi paints with her music and slip away into the Verde.
