DREAMERS - You Are Here

It has been some time since a really solid Indie-Rock album has come around. That is exactly what DREAMERS' new EP You Are Here is just some straight to the point rock that is not messing around with synths, electronic elements or anything of the like. The band they most closely resemble is probably Phoenix, with that same powerful sound but keeping the vocals slightly Lo-Fi. Don't mistake this record for mindless strumming along though, it really is quite a bit more. The band first made a splash in 2014 with their single "Wolves (You Got Me)", which is included on this record, and have been putting this EP together ever since. "Wolves" and "DRUGS" follow in the same vein thematically and are really the two best songs on the record. They have a bopping quality that you really don't find to often these days that really set the songs apart. The music is also quite fun, the band allows their sound to move and flow organically rather than forcing themselves into one sound or another and this makes for tracks that are allowed to explore.

"Shooting Shadows" is another one of the standouts (I've mentioned three on a five track EP) but less for capturing the energy of DREAMERS and more for showing the bands versatility. The main issue with this release however is that it just doesn't feel like enough. Clocking in under 16 minutes You Are Here feels more like a placeholder for these tracks rather than a release all it's own. DREAMERS have been in production of a record for some time now and their heat was chilling a bit so the time was right to get something out to keep the fires stoked. The tracks are well done, but the record hits and is gone faster than you can blink an eye, nothing feels sustained or long lasting. This is something that obviously will be corrected with a band that is doing things at this high of a level when a full release comes out but for now we have to settle for a quick taste rather than the full meal.
