Meek Mill - DC4

It was a matter of time that after all the beefs and squawking Meek Mill has been doing over the past year that an album was certainly in the works. Calling out the likes of Drake and The Game Meek has been on TMZ almost as much as Tyga. Dating Nicki Minaj and never shutting up about everyone else in the rap game apparently garners quite a bit of notoriety. One of the major issues with this new record DC4 (Dream Catchers 4) is that every topic Meek tries to get in to has already been done by someone else, and at a higher level. "Shine" his empowerment anthem might as well be one of those motivational posters with clouds and a nice saying. The song is also a ridiculous five and a half minutes that goes absolutely no where from where it began. Mill's beefs have not hindered his ability to get some major features on his album. Obviously Nicki Minaj, Young Thug, French Montana and many other round out a trap heads dream. On Froze Minaj proves why she is the current Queen of the other ladies in hip hop, but the rest of the track feels like a Rae Shremmurd throw away. The album is fine, but you cannot ever shake the sense that someone else is doing this better somewhere else.

Then however "The Difference" featuring Quavo comes on and the album takes a real terrible turn. This song is so incredibly bad just getting through it is a chore. For almost four minutes the beat never changes, the delivery never changes and we just have to sit back and pretend like this is anything. It sounds like something two high people would really get hyped to when they were recording forgetting that people actually like good music, not just a beat over and over. When Mill finally has a nice beat and a chance to do something interesting on "Blue Notes" he refuses to alter his delivery and flat out ruins the track. He also goes into an almost unintelligible spoken word interlude that has more pop psychology than a Barnes and Noble. If there was something redeeming or something to really set Meek Mill apart from the rest of the pack I would mention it, but it just is not here. Don't waste your time, Run don't walk away from this record.
