As of late I have discovered a few French kids doing some pretty magical things musically. Petit Biscuita 16 year old from France however is bursting on to the scene with one of the most well produced debut EPs I have ever heard. Clearly inspired by the downtempo giants like Odesza, this EP creates lush ambient worlds filled with greens and blues yet manages to keep the dance vibe alive. You aren't just going on a journey with this record, you are dancing through that world. Petit Biscuit first burst on to the scene with "Sunset Lover" which is the most pop ready song on the record. The plucking guitar, which is a theme throughout the album really takes this genre which is usually heavily percussion based and adds an entirely new element. Percussion still reigns supreme on tracks like "Jungle", which pulls in elements of Jungle House to create something wildly different from what we have heard before. This song at one point is almost Porter Robinson-esque with distant unintelligible vocals and glitchy techno chimes. With all this going on you would expect the album to feel disjointed but it all ends up coming together so incredibly well.

"Full Moon" sparkles and shimmers like the night sky, probably why it's named what it is, but it also features an acoustic guitar line that is absolutely infectious. However the song never lets up with it's evolution; it just continues to change shape and morph around the twinkles. It's uplifting yet just a little sad at the very same time. That is one of the really special things about this album and even this kind of music, it can embody so many different emotions for people and allow them to put their own expression on the track rather than just passively listen. The final track "Iceland" feels like a retrospective on the journey you have just been on. It combines elements from all the tracks on the record and just sort of wraps them up in a nice little bow for you to leave with. For a debut EP you really cannot ask for more, and hopefully this is only the start for this French phenom.
