Passion Pit - Kindred

Passion Pit
Kindred

Passion Pit seem to work below the surface often times. They have great tunes that get remixed and passed around, but more often than not people have no idea who they are. Passion Pit's strength has always been in the synth heavy indie dance music and on Kindred, despite a myriad of ballads, that remains true. "Lifted (1985)" the first and far and away the best track on the record, is a celebration of life even with all the pitfalls that come with living it. The song is transcendent and sets a tone that unfortunately the rest of the record just can not stand up to. But what record could when a song is just so damn good. On "Where the Sky Hangs" Passion Pit leave the IndiePop world a bit and make something actually a bit funky, finger snaps and deep bass lines included.

The album as a whole is pretty solid. The standout tracks not included the rest of the record holds up and creates something quite interesting and pretty. Passion Pit always comes across as deeply personal despite its Pop sound, however Kindred is exceedingly so telling tales of youth, love and loss in the synthyest way possible. Give Kindred a shot, but for sure listen to "Lifter (1985)" truly an amazing song.
