Coasts - Coasts

Coasts does not sound like a debut record. Taking a nod from bands like Bastille or Magic Man Coasts has a blend of epic, dancey Indie rock. Before this album was released the group had a string of singles that made it into indie scenes' playlists including "A Rush of Blood", "Oceans" and "Modern Love". All those tracks made it on to the debut and are actually tighter than their EP counterparts. This album is actually razor sharp with super clean vocals and music that fits perfectly into the Indie vein that Coasts inhabits. The drums much like Imagine Dragons are amplified to a point where they would completely fill a stadium. It seems like this is where Coasts plans on going, stadium filling Indie Rock. Coasts is filled with potential singles with each track building on the momentum the one set before it. The band does occasionally slow things down like on "Wash Away" but clearly they are more successful when they are letting it loose.

An element that often goes unnoticed for indie groups like this is your ability to really dance to it. Sure some music is powerful, moving or whatever but a nice song that you can really dance to goes under appreciated in this genre and Coasts have that in spades. One of the issues with this record however is it will be hard to see it actually standing out in what  is already a pretty crowded field. What Coasts have really tried to do here is replicate the success that they had with "Oceans" by creating a record filled with songs like "Oceans". It is great if that is all you want to hear, but a change of pace or something to mix it up would really take this record to the next level. It cannot be denied that despite sticking to what they know Coasts have put out an album that is really hard not to like. While their first hit may still be their best, get to know Coasts you won't find better running music out there.
