Hinds - Leave Me Alone

Hinds are the newest girl band to take on the garage rock revolution. Following the lead of bands like Haim and Chastity Belt these Madrid based ladies embody the not giving a fuck type of music. The sound is surfesque with that very special lead guitar not wailing but pushing the music forward on top of vocals that two of the members of the group share. The switching between singers adds a quality that we really have not seen since Blink-182 where each voice adds something different but they work together so well that it is never a shock when one comes in. The band also focuses on bright rock infused pop music that can travel easily from the club to the beach without issue. Their is alos a youthful exuberance to this 12 track album that even when thinks slow down you still feel as if you are involved in something young and new with wonderment at it all. As to be expected many of the songs focus on love but in a kind of odd English as a second language kind of way "All I see is a big cow/Now I'm eating all of your corn".

The lightness of the music while entrancing for awhile starts to become a bit grading towards the end of the album. You are left wanting a bit of edge, less sepia tone and sunsets and a little more grit just to round out what is otherwise a really nice record. The girls' singing also at times can drift into the lots of people yelling at the same time category especially on "Walking Home" which is probably one of the weaker tracks on the record. What you take away from this record is that there are people out there still having fun with music and still experimenting and taking risks. If this album would have come out a few years ago along with The Strokes and other bands of that ilk these girls would be superstars. Leave Me Alone really is asking for anything but as the band leaves their full emotion out on the table for all to see. A solid first record from a band on the rise.
