Offset - Father of 4

Offset has always been thought of as the brains behind The Migos. His production and skill often takes a backseat to Quavo's personality on Migos tracks, but Offset has always been the front runner. That changed a bit in the past year. After the Migos released Culture II the solo albums started flowing out. Offset's was supposed to be first but delays upon delays meant that He is now the last one to throw his hat into the ring. The first thing that comes to mind is: is this photo of Offset and his kids photo shopped? If it is... what? What, is a word that will come to your mind a hell of a lot of this record. Offset takes a lot of the partying and thug life mentality of trap music and instead goes inward. Much of this record, especially the opening track feels incredibly revealing with Offset outlying the ways He has been a good father and the ways He has been a bad one. Much of this album feels like a message to his kids, to help them understand just who their father is. The thing you quickly realize on these solo records is no Migo is greater than another Migo. When they are together there is always one that seems to standout on different tracks, but when they are on their own they start to sound a bit toothless. This album is so slow and syrupy that it never really engages. It's just some generic trap music over generic trap beats. There are also multiple songs that are similar to "Don't Lose Me" where Offset goes on an all out apology tour to who we can only assume is Cardi B after his recent infidelity.

SO many times on this album He get's into apologizing, rationalizing or trying to come to terms with the man He is. This take on trap isn't completely new, it's just out of character for Offset. There is not one banger in the entire bunch on this record. Even the superstar features don't do much to save this record. Even Travis Scott and 21 Savage vanish into obscurity on their track with Offset "Legacy". Metro Boomin, Cubeatz and Southside taking care of most of the production duties, but do little more than stack more thick trap beats on top of each other. Cardi B is the only feature who brings any kind of energy to this record, her verse on "Clout" takes the somewhat plain piano centered beat and gives it a whole new life. Other than that Father of 4 is almost completely one note. Each song is more of Offset trying to reveal himself as a normal father trying to provide for his children. The thing is it just goes on and on, without ever changing. You are left with 16 songs that say basically the same thing in the same way. Any exciting moments are totally drowned out by the boredom. He started with a kernel of an idea and then went absolutely no where with it. If you keep your eyes open throughout the album, kudos, for the rest of this this is just another subpar Migos solo record.
