Ryn Weaver - The Fool

The Fool
2015
If you haven't heard "Octahate" on the radio yet you may have been sleeping under a rock or something. Ryn Weaver's debut album The Fool is full of emotion tracks complete with love, loss, and raw soul bearing. Ryn has that organic sounding voice that pushes so well against heavy electronic music, nothing comes across as overproduced despite a quite high production value. She sings the type of songs that are easy to get lost in, she takes you on a flow with her and before you know it you are at the end of an album with almost no clue how you got there. Each track on The Fool is well constructed but just different enough to keep it out of any type of top 40 list. She follows in the same vein as Frou Frou or Sia, where the art of the music often takes over from whatever popness may be there.
The Fool as a debut is quite interesting because it sets up Weaver on a path that is in no way cookie cutter. She is able to experiment and change to whatever journey suits her and there is no telling what exactly that might be. It is great to see an artist doing something outside of the normal path and really attempting to explore. Even the songs that end up being catchy ("Octahate", "The Fool") there still is that sense of something really interesting going on. The Fool is a really solid album and a great first look at an artist that will be here for some time to come.
