Wolf Alice - My Love is Cool
Wolf Alice
My Love is Cool
2015
Much like their grunge rock predecessors Wolf Alice's debut album My Love is Cool always has the hint of aggression just lying dormant under the surface. It is that sense of angst that drives this record, but the music is so clear and the vocals so clean that is really does change the game in the genre. Every word is sang clear, never mumbled so you know exactly what they mean exactly what they are saying. But then all at once the music drives forward waiting on the edge to just explode. The way the record floats and flows along only to eventually erupt into sonic destruction really makes for an incredible listen. When you listen to My Love is Cool you are listening to something that is wide open, its all right there in front of you waiting to be discovered.
When you heard that Wolf Alice have been touring almost constantly for the past couple of years it makes sense why this album is so razor sharp. Each note fits perfectly and snuggly in it's place. My Love is Cool is rage wrapped in a beautiful package, it allows for the harder emotions to come through without ever sacrificing on a polished product. It is very Garbage-esque in that way. This review has been extremely hard to write and that makes sense because Wolf Alice are so good but you can never really figure out why. They aren't following a formula or completely breaking away, there is a give and take that makes perfect sense and is hard to describe. Listen for yourself and let me know what you think about My Love is Cool.
