Rationale - Fuel To The Fire
London based singer Rationale has set blogs ablaze this year with his infectious take on R&B and electropop. This EP Fuel To The Fire is the first compilation of his tracks into one place and sounds like the smooth vibrant singer that He is. The sound is quite interesting because it is not fully electropop or fully R&B. Rational's voice is so unique that He is able to slide between the genres effortlessly. His music is well received having topped Hype Machine more than once. The one that has been in the news the most is "Fuel To The Fire" which is a stripped down beat that allows the singer to shine. If a record could really be called alt-R&B this would be one of them. Fuel To The Fire is clearly not worried about dipping from one style to another and the music really does benefit from it.
To be honest there really is not much to review here at only four tracks and probably to the records detriment. Because of the success for songs like "Fast Lane" and "Fuel To The Fire" it feels like this EP was probably rushed out. There is a certain lack of care given to the way the songs are thrown together and put out just to have something available. Rationale probably could have taken a bit more time given the obvious quality to really craft something special here instead the songs are quickly laid out then moved on from just as fast. There is a spark here though and you will be coming back to these tracks time after time, get ready for something big from Rationale very very soon.
