There is an idea that Electropop is hollow or for some reason lacks depth. For years now Hot Chip have been taking that idea and turning it on its head and they continue to do so with their sixth studio album Why Make Sense?. The record is avant garde, punk, pop, new, old, special, dull everything that can be put into an album is jammed into these 10 tracks. The songs are a bit longer but the pace never seems to drag and never relies on high tempo to keep the energy up. The album flows like a late night experience taking you through the seedy underground dance raves all the way back to your bed, enticing you the entire way with complex musical arrangements that come across as anything but.

This sixth album rather than being more of the same is a mastery of the art. Hot Chip are so comfortable with their sound there is no doubt in what they put forward. The confidence of a song like "Need You Now" is total, they don't need to surprise you because what they have to offer is so far and above anything else the rest would be "just for showing off". There is almost a complete lack of darkness from music that in the hands of anyone else would sound depressing. Why Make Sense? is more than a title it is a theme for this record, rather than settle for something ordinary Hot Chip decided not to make sense and try anything and everything. On this record it worked, and it worked damn good.
