Carl Barât And The Jackals - Let it Reign
Carl Barât And The Jackals
Let it Reign
2015
Carl Barât is a many of many bands. By my count he plays or fronts no fewer than four, which includes being lead guitar for The Libertines. I have listened to or heard no of his music until I cam across this record. Let it Reign is a blend of rock, punk and pop and has a very distinct British vibe. Listening to Barât I felt like I was listening to Russell Brand's character from Get Him to the Greek, that slightly dirty from a night of hard partying but still able to pull it together to bust out an awesome set. The music itself however does come across as a bit disposable, and often rushed. It's not fast enough to be considered punk, hard enough to be rock or catchy enough to be pop so Let it Reign is straddling a line.
Anglophiles will delight at this album though, because it does feel so very British. There is no doubt about the talent of these musicians though, the drums throughout the record are quite impressive while the guitar rifts soar and soar. This album will not make it on any top lists but it is definitly worth a listen and possible further exploration into Carl Barât.
