Glass Animals - Zaba
Glass Animals
Zaba
2014
Zaba is the first record from the English group Glass Animals and is a psychedelic sonic journey. The music flows like a river, builds but never peaks and feels almost like you are taking part in whatever trip Glass Animals seems to be on. What I am most impressed with is the cohesiveness of the record; each song flows perfectly into the next. Glass Animals definitely made a conscious effort to make the album one unit. The single "Gooey" is my least favorite track on the album, it is just kind of awkward and squished in the middle of an otherwise solid work. "Flip" the first track on the record for me is far superior, but probably lacks a mainstream radio play appeal.
The music is dirty and sexy. Edmund Irwin almost whispers instead of sings which is both intoxicating and annoying at the same time. Because the album works together so well the individual songs build and build but the climaxes rarely come and are not as big of a payoff as they possibly could be. Sit back, take some mushrooms and enjoy Glass Animals...
