The Chainsmokers - Bouquet EP

The Chainsmokers
Bouquet EP
2015

This is a review that I thought I would not be able to write. The Chainsmokers to their credit have decided to forgo the whole album thing as is the trend these days and just release a new track each month or so. The nature of this blog is an album a day hence the Chainsmokers and the stellar music they have been putting out would not qualify. Then this, the Bouquet EP. A collection of four of the songs they have released over the year plus a new track "New York City". "Roses" is the lead of track and this song really is incredible. Singer Rozes has an absolutely classic voice that is just different enough to set her apart from the usual suspects when it comes to EDM singers. She should be singing in front of a jazz band a la Billie Holiday but putting her in front of the Chainsmokers blazing track is a fantastic move. "New York City" is the emotional heart of the record just as "Waterbed" (probably one of the most underrated songs on here) is the out and out dance track. There really is something to be had for everyone on this record, especially if you are in to the current state of electronic music.

The greatest of the Chainsmokers really should not be a surprise. "#SELFIE" probably their most popular song to date is satire at it's finest in music. Sure Father John Misty can spin a hilarious yarn, but few people have blasted "basic" culture like the Chainsmokers did with #SELFIE". That lightness really helps their songs, there is a quality of: this is music so let's just have fun with it to their releases and that sentiment comes through in almost everything they do. On "Until You Were Gone" the DJs go back to their progressive house roots and have a song that builds and builds throughout. Bouquet may just be an opportunity for the Chainsmokers to package up some of the great tunes they have been making this year but it is one we should all be happy they took. Take a listen and I defy you to not make you ass shake.
