Chastity Belt - Time to Go Home

Chastity Belt
Time to Go Home
2015

There will always be those bands that for one reason are another are just plain cool. Their style and swagger just come across better than others. That is Chastity Belt. On Time to Go Home Chastity Belt have taken a break from their hardcore party girl ways and taken a more sobering look at life and love. Time to Go Home is sad and melodic, but in the very best way, It is taking that look in the mirror after a hard night of partying and asking what in the fuck it is all about. Introspection and looking at the big ideas of what exactly this life is all about is the main theme on this record and it comes across so clearly through surf rock guitars and super consistent drumming. Songs like "Why Try" and "Drone" just show the high level indifference that make Chastity Belt so damn cool.

It is hard to find flaw on a record that is this open, this willing to bear its soul right there in front of you. It's raw in the very best way. Avoiding the Lo-Fi affectation that very easily could have been a part of this hip record greatly improves the experience, Chastity Belt has something to say and they want you to hear it clearly. Time to Go Home is an excellent transition from hard punk into something more refined, more adult. Just as the ladies of Chastity Belt are growing up so is their music, and lucky for us we get to grow right along with them.
