Torres - Sprinter

Sprinter is the newest release from Brooklyn native Torres. The sophomore release sees her exploring what her sound is and what levels of darkness she can reach. Her music writing style is very conversational, she is talking directly to the listener or someone close to hear. The songs are so personal you feel as if you are getting a peak at something you are not suppose to see or hear, it's naughty and it's dark. The lyrics come across as quite country, probably from Torres' growing up in the south and spending time in Nashville, but the music is wholly Indie Rock in all it's grunge and raw glory. Sprinter takes the idea that music can be raw and soul bearing to another level, but at the same time never looses it's musicality. It is expertly crafted each note seems to be perfectly placed just where it is supposed to be.

Some of the tracks however can be a bit long, but that doesn't really come across because nothing ever feels repetitive. The first half of the album really rocks and as things progress Torres slows things down eventually going all acoustic with birds chirping in the background on the final track of the record "The Exchange". "Strange Hellos" is the most aggressive track on the album and seems to be the one to really sum up the direction the listener is about to go on. Sprinter is interesting on so many levels, but don't go in to it expecting to hear catchy hooks or bright riffs, they aren't there. Take on Sprinter and be prepared for it to challenge what you think.
