Incubus - Trust Fall (Side A)

Trust Fall (Side A)
2015

Incubus have jumped forward by moving back. For a long time Incubus have slipped away from their roots of hard indie rock paired with a DJ and combining elements from many musical genres. They fell into the Alt-Rock trap of mediocrity on albums like Light Grenades and If Not Now When?. Their message became to political, to vague and preachy even for the Incubus faithful. That's all been swept aside with this fantastic EP Trust Fall (Side A). The music has a deep groove which Incubus perfected on albums like S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Make Yourself. Ben Kenney the bassist for the group is at the top of his game on this record driving bass lines that shape and mold each track and allow the experimentation to happen for the vocals, guitar and turntables.

The thing that was often missing from albums like A Crow Left of the Murder... was that sense of fun that Incubus always had early on. That is back in spades on this record it seems like they are actually enjoying their music and enjoying playing together. It is quite refreshing and exciting for potential things to come from Incubus. Trust Fall (Side A) is a great start to something, look forward to hearing much more from the boys in the year to come.
