All Time Low - Future Hearts

All Time Low
Future Hearts
2015

Pop Punk seems to always have a place in the hearts and minds of the faithful. Things like "Taking Back Tuesday" (A Los Angeles show where every first tuesday guest DJs come and play old emo and pop punk records) and this album Future Hearts show that despite what you may have heard Teens and Teens at heart still love this stuff. This is an album out of time. In 2003 Future Hearts would most likely be the biggest thing to happen, Kazaa would be exploding with people downloading it. Unfortunately it's 2015 and this kind of music just doesn't seem to fit. The suburban angst and young love lost just feel out of place. The music though outside of the world it exists in is actually quite good, the songs are well put together and catchy as hell. I think All Time Low are at their best when the break out of the four chord progression and try a little something new.

The second half of the album is where they do a bit of experimentation and it is really successful. "Cinderblock Garden" "Tidal Waves" and "Bail Me Out" are all pretty damn good tracks and let the band stretch their wings a bit. These are also the tracks where they get a bit of vocal help from Mark Hoppus (Blink 182) and Joel Madden (Good Charlotte). Future Hearts is exactly what it should be, a catchy pop punk record. You can't fault All Time Low for doing what their good at, but you also don't have to particularly like it.
