Lord Huron - Strange Trails

Lord Huron
Strange Trails
2015

I was going to write about how a sophomore release is very difficult and how Lord Huron defied the odds, but listening to this album that shit really does not matter. Strange Trails is a beautifully crafted piece of art. In a bit of a departure from their first album Lonesome Dreams, Strange Trails is much higher paced but still with Ben Schneider's hauntingly beautiful voice. The songs follow a post apocalyptic world filled with characters, singers and lovers just trying to find their way when something is so fucked up that all they can do is find beauty in it. The music can loosely be defined as Indie-Folk but it is just dripping with American rock themes that it really defies characterization. Everything you want from an album like this; High concept, musically brilliant yet still catchy enough to dance to the record really has it all.

This is one of those records that is going to be an all time great, it works on so many levels and will delight so many people. Even with the high minded ideas and stories that Lord Huron is trying to float not a single thing is lost. Listening to this record you will feel the love, feel the loss and be swept right along with the journey that is laid right in front of you. I cannot recommend this album enough, if you do one thing please get this album it will not disappoint.
