Male Gaze - Gale Maze

Male Gaze are a band out of time. Their debut album Gale Maze is a punk art rock (think X or the Pixies) would have been ground breaking in the 1980s. Aggressive guitar rifts, constant drums and more distortion than you know what to do with Male Gaze exists as a tribute to a time when punk rock was not used as nomenclature for popular culture. Where Male Gaze sets itself apart is in its production. Instead of trying to capture the feel of a live show and put it on a record they are very aware that this a a produced record, with echoed vocals, distorted yet clean bass and guitar as well as the occasional use of different musical elements. It is an odd yet somewhat pleasing venture into a time of music that has yet to make a big comeback.

Male Gaze may be on the forefront of a musical revolution or just an attempt to copy something from the past. That answer isn't quite clear. However for someone who likes the punk scene of the 80 Gale Maze maybe your best look back as of late. It will be interesting to see how this progresses and whether this is the birth of a scene or just a blast from the past.
