Odessa - Odessa

Odessa is not Odesza, I just wanted to make sure that was clear for anyone a bit confused. Odessa has released her first self titled album and in so let the world into her dreamy, pretty and Indie Singer Songwriter world. This album is almost 100% vocal driven, I mean that in it hinges on whether Odessa's voice does what it is supposed to do and that is sound impeccable. Odessa's sound is light and airy but that voice pierces through and cuts you right to the core. She has that goosebumps type voice, where listening to her sing just gives you the chills. Now that being said, the music behind her leaves quite a bit to be desired. When you have a voice like hers the thought is to let it shine by limiting your backing track but the potential for something truly transcendent was here, but it seems to have missed the mark.

The final track on the album "Western" doesn't even include any singing, it's a real letdown. Odessa works as a concept: a singer-songwriter putting their heart on their sleeve and making a record, but listening to it you hear so much "could have been". The record is still extremely pretty and light, and that is never going away. I think with some more polish and maybe a great producer we could be seeing some great things from Odessa, maybe even an Odessa Odesza mashup? Stranger things have happened.
