Kelly Clarkson - Piece By Piece

Kelly Clarkson
Piece By Piece
2015

Kelly Clarkson's newest album is Piece by Piece and much like the title suggests the record is a patchwork of genre combination and experimentation. The producers on the album dive into almost every genre: EDM, Rock, R&B all while using Clarkson's always incredible voice as the ground. Sometimes it works like on "Nostalgic" and sometimes it doesn't "Dance With Me" but it always stays an interesting take on what it means to be a Pop Diva in 2015. The songs where Clarkson really seems to be bearing her soul like the title track "Piece By Piece" and "Second Wind" really seem to hit the soul the hardest but are most likely far from being radio hits. That is where this album seems to miss a bit, it's like throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks.

The album is far from focused and tries to make every track something really big and really special. Unfortunately when you take that approach some outliers come to the forefront, but the record as a whole does suffer. It becomes to much bigness to much shine without enough substance. I can't get over the fact that despite all this Kelly Clarkson's voice manages to bring it back in and back together. She is a truly special talent, but this is not her best record. Still worth a listen and there will be some monster hits. If you haven't give young Kelly a shot.
