Run the Jewels - Run the Jewels 2

Run the Jewels
Run the Jewels 2
2014

Dirty, irreverent, southern, modern, classic all words that can be used to describe the EL-P and Killer Mike collaboration Run the Jewels. Two men who have had successful careers in the hip hop world teamed up to create this super group and seemed to have dropped all pretension and all preconceived notions about what hip hop should and can be. RTJ2 is much darker then their first self titled album and goes after just about every person Run the Jewels does not respect in the rap game. Where their first album was fun and light, this album is dark and heavy but still completely their own. Their style is so effortless, whether Killer Mike and EL-P are tag teaming a track or just going off on their own long runs it is impossible not to respect their lyrical style. It's as good as Outkast at their best but is never imitating.

RTJ2 is not an arrival of something new, it's the rebirth of true lyrical hip hop. Great news from Run the Jewels is Travis Barker will be playing with them at Coachella, which will be an incredible show. before you listen to Big Sean, Kanye or anything new coming out sit yourself down listen to Run the Jewels and give yourself a true Hip Hop education.
