Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly

Kendrick Lamar
To Pimp a Butterfly
2015

Kendrick Lamar is 100% not fucking around. This album is progress, its innovation and above all it sounds amazing. To Pimp a Butterfly is light years in front of anyone out there. Lamar is digging through the history of modern music from jazz to pop in order to create something truly unique, something wholly new but relatable from the first listen. There is a through line of celebrating black culture while pointing our issue after issue that the modern man faces. It is poetry and philosophy as much as it is music, Kendrick Lamar is making art, there is absolutely no doubt about it. The torch has been taken up from Tupac and the vacum he left after his death for a true west coast poet, Kendrick even finish the album with an interview/conversation with Tupac himself. It's as if they are speaking to each other despite being separated by death.

There is always the potential when creating something new that it will be unrelatable, but that never happens with this album. Song after song soars and keeps deep within you. I can not sing this album enough praise, it is an absolute game changer. Take notes hip hop community Kendrick Lamar is putting on an absolute clinic.
