Beck - Morning Phase

Beck
Morning Phase
2014

At this point not being a Beck fan is hypocrisy. Fans have become enamored with his weird funky style and his ability to push the bounds of sonic creation while still maintaining a youthful and playful vibe. That's why many people who love beck will hate this album, and it's the exact reason they are so wrong. Morning Phase is a complete departure from anything beck has done before. It's stripped down, mostly analogue and has an understated feel, totally a change from songs like "Loser" and 'Where It's At". However EVERY song on Morning Phase is absolutely beautiful, in the Beach Boys Pet Sounds kind of way. The sounds are haunting, the production is second to none and Beck's voice is better than it has every been before.

The songs seem to float one into another, which for many may lack the funk and fun that Beck's albums used to have but you cannot get away from just how incredible these songs sound. You can feel exactly where Beck is in his life, He transports you there with this music. Morning Phase is one of the best albums I have heard in awhile, but I'd never play it at a party, or listen to it with a friend. This music is lonely, almost like Beck wanted to have a personal conversation with you, and it is a conversation I will be having over and over again.

9 out of 10 Stars!!!
