After a successful career with Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros guitarist Christian Letts has struck out on his own and created Hold Fast. The album is far less of the folk Americana vibe that defines the Magnetic Zero and is instead a much more paired down singer songwriter type of release. Much of the record is just Letts and his guitar with maybe a touch of indistinguishable background music. Almost every song seems to be building to something, but in the end there is no payoff. Each song just seems to drift off into infinity. Whereas most singer songwriters let their lyrics speak for them, Letts' just seem to float away and never really make an impact.

I can't really recommend this album. It is just never gets going or reaches any real place of significance. If you really want to hear Letts make some awesome music check out Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' album Up From Below.
