Guster - Evermotion

Guster
Evermotion
2015

Evermotion is the latest album from Guster and is their first in almost five years. The melodies are just about the same, the singing is the same, everything is the same as previous releases. It seems like Guster has decided not to reinvent the wheel with this album and stick with exactly what made them popular in the late 90s, early 2000s. Gone however are those breakout exciting tracks, the new feeling that Guster used to bring. It's almost like they are trying to imitate themselves, or another version of themselves. Guster however has never been a huge album band, they have always been known for their live shows and never taking themselves all that seriously.

This idea comes through in a companion with record in which the entire band gives commentary on the whole album. I think this idea is amazing. It's almost like DVD commentary, but for music. The artist has a chance to explain where they were coming from, their state of mind and what actually goes into each song. I can see this being a huge thing in the future. Unfortunately the commentary does not make this an all together good album. I was underwhelmed.

5 out of 10 Starss.
