Tall Ships - Everything Touching

Tall Ships
Everything Touching
2012

This album confuses me a bit. It seems to be right on the edge of epic music close to Explosions in the Sky, but then often slows down and takes a meek understated vibe. The one thing this record definitely has going for it is theme, it has one and it sticks to it. The whole album feels very complete both in beginning and end. It's aggressive guitars and heavy drums in the first few tracks, almost stacking the line between alternative and hardcore, then it slows down the the middle with more lyric driven songs only to explode into all out sonic booms for the end.

One track that sticks out is "Idolatry", not for being great but because it feels like the Indie version of a power ballad. White Snake and Poison would be so very proud. The song itself though it clunky and doesn't fit in the story they are telling. Also most of the tracks have long intros and long outros, they don't improve the songs they just make them longer and longer. Towards the end two songs "Send News" and "Books" blend together in an interesting way, but the intro/outro is so long I was almost annoyed.

Not a bad album at all, there are some really great songs on this and it deserves a listen, my recommendation though and how I actually came to Tall Ships was through a Draper remix:

This is an amazing electronic remix and adds a demention to the song that is expert.

6 out of 10 ⭐️

The remix song 10 out of 10 😄
