Mogwai - Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1. EP

Mogwai
Music Industry 3. Fitness Industry 1. EP
2014

Mogwai gave us a lot this year. Not only did they release “Rave Tapes”  but now they dropped this EP showcasing some pretty stellar remixes and a few new tunes. The album follows the trend of bands recutting certain songs with different producers to give them a new flair or maybe make up for what they thought was deficient with the original track. I don’t think Mogwai have a need to prove anything at this point, they consistently put out great music, it’s not groundbreaking nor is it avant-garde but it’s just great sounding Mogwai music. That is where the album from this year stayed and what this EP picks up on.

My favorite track on the album is “The Lord is Out of Control (Nils Frahm Remix)”. The song begins with a slow piano rift but builds and builds to an epic crescendo (much like Mogwai of old) only to drop out and build again. It really is a great song. The EP doesn’t contain much cohesion since it is just a collection of remixes, but they all stand alone as really solid tracks. The single “Teenage Exorcists” is the heaviest rock song on the album and has a live music feel that sounds really powerful

I would suggest giving this album a shot. Mogwai have been a really superb band for a long time and it is time they start getting their due.

8 out of 10 🚀
