Sleater Kinney have released their first new album in 10 years and the critic world is abuzz. Personally this is my first introduction to the band so the only context I have is what other people have written about them in the past. However coming at the album fresh as a blank slate is a great way to do it. "No Cities To Love"is a really really good record. Start to finish it is filled with great punk inspired licks, grungy vocals and driving rhythms. The 10 tracks are relentless in their aggression, from the first note to the last Sleater Kinney does not let off the gas, they keep pushing and pushing the groove, and it is delightful.
Every time I listen to this album it gets better. There are little pieces both lyrically and musically which make the music very complex, but still approachable. Its not as if the aggressiveness is off putting, its more like it brings you in. If this album is any indication of Sleater Kinney I can't wait to dive in to their old stuff. You should absolutely check this one out.
