Smashing Pumpkins - Monuments to an Elegy

Smashing Pumpkins
Monuments to an Elegy
2014

The Smashing Pimpkins newest release "Monuments to an Elegy" harkened back to their days of glory, but ultimately falls short. While the music is decent it still feels very dated, if this album came out in the early to mid nineties there is no doubt in my mind this album would be a classic. Unfortunately the world has continued to spin, and time has passed by the Pumpkins. On their best day the music is inspired and haunting but this record feels more like a place holder for something great on the horizon.

Interestingly enough Tommy Lee of Motley Crüe, sextape and large drumstick prowess plays drums on the whole album. The drums throughout are very very well done and often seem to be featured, and rightfully so.

While the album is not up to the pumpkins usually high standards, there are a few catchy tunes like "monuments" and "anaise!". Definitely worth listen, but not my favorite offering from the Pumpkins.
