The Kooks - Listen
2014

The Kooks have really brought it with this super ambitios album. It features head bangers, driving bass lines and that ever present grungy rock that they have become known for. The album features a variety of styles that really shows off The Kooks' range. They can slip between guitar rifts into very danceable hipster beats almost seamlessly.

The first three tracks are classic Kooks, almost begging the audience to sing and dance along. However the album takes a turn with "See Me Now". This piano ballad almost reminds me of an old Motown song rich with story as well as a gospel choir backing. While many tracks like this can seem contrived, The Kooks totally pull it off and bring you right back to their rock roots with "It Was London" complete with a great guitar lick and fantastic drumming.

All in all this album really cooks, I found myself singing and dancing along almost immediately.  Though it does take a slow down in the last four tracks. While obviously hits these tracks don't quite live up to my favorite song on the album "Around Town". I really liked this album and think this will be one of those classic Kooks record.
