Mark Ronson - Uptown Special

Mark Ronson
Uptown Special
2015

Mark Ronson's "Uptown Special" has one of the biggest hits of the year with He and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk" and for good reason, its a great tune. The album also has a great track featuring the finally free Mystikal being his whole amazing Mystikal self. That however is where the goodness of this album stops. To say the record is bipolar is a bit of a misnomer, because there is much more bad than there is good. The highs are high but the lows are oh so very low. "Feel Right" and "Uptown Funk: are the number three and number four tracks on the album so the next seven are tough to get through.

I love the funky sound on the two tracks, they are progressive, interesting and move the genre forward. They bring a whole new audience into the funk scene. I just don't why then Ronson goes into tired 70's soft rock that is completely uninspired.  I know it seems impossible but the greatest that is Bruno Mars and Mystikal almost make up for the rest of the record...key word, almost.

5 out of 10 stars.
